About Us

What is The Episcopal Foundation of Northern California (EFNC)?


The Episcopal Foundation of Northern California (EFNC) was established as a nonprofit corporation in 1983.  It is an institution of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Northern California and is subject to the provisions of its Constitution and Canons. The Board of Directors is composed of the Bishop, the chancellor and 15 elected members, representing congregations throughout Northern California. The Board, as a Committee of the whole, sets policy for the Foundation and acts on recommendations of the Board Committees: Executive, Planning, Evaluation, and Nominating, Promotion & Education, and Finance. From 1992 to 2010, The Foundation has facilitated gifts totaling $36,114,900.00.  Of these, 75.18% have benefited Churches, 14.46% the Diocese, 7.78% Diocesan Institutions, 2.58% outside the Diocese.

Our Mission Statement:

“The Mission of The Episcopal Foundation of Northern California is to make disciples, raise up saints and transform communities for Christ in Northern California by enhancing the financial vitality of our congregations and institutions. We will accomplish this through education, consultation, management and co-ordination with individuals and local and Diocesan leadership.”

 

EFNC provides the following services: 
 
 Churches: 

  • Presentations during services
  • Consultation with vestries about creating, managing and investing Endowment funds    
  • Provision of materials for churches to promote an awareness of planned giving   
  • Assistance for your church with issues of estate distributions.

 Congregations:    

  • Mini-workshops - (one hour to one 1/2 hours) on estate planning & planned giving 
  • Full workshops, developed in conjunction with local congregations, featuring estate planning specialists   
  • Presentations by Board members on The Foundation and its' work

 Individuals:

  • Assistance for individuals desiring to make gifts/bequests to your church    
  • Consultation with individual members of your congregation about their estate plans   
  • Acting as trustee to enable people to make gifts to their church that permit  them to retain life income   
  • Acting as agent for the receipt of gifts of stock   
  • Handling all aspects of gifts of real estate.
